kinetic returns to Ormside Projects on the 26th October, celebrating their second birthday with a line up of artists at the forefront of experimentation and creativity.
Big love to everyone who came to our label launch party at Spanners on Friday, it was our first sold out show & a beautiful night celebrating the first release on our label.
For those who couldn’t make it, fear not as we’re FINALLY here to reveal our plans for our 2nd birthday on the 26th October with some of our favourite artists who push the boundaries of experimentation and creativity.
kinetic 2nd birthday w / Nono Gigsta, Marylou, Dj wiggles, sinny & tutu ta [live]
Nono Gigsta [Fictions]
It only takes a few minutes of listening to a Nono Gigsta set, or reading her substack to realise Nono is much more than a DJ. Someone who gets as much joy dancing to music as she does reflecting on it, has many strings to her bow. Academic researcher, DJ, producer, promoter, radio host and zine-maker - to name a few, she’s an artist in every sense of the word.
Having performed internationally under the moniker Gigsta since 2015 she’s recently found her schedule ramp up again under her new moniker through her wide ranging & genre-bending sets.
We’ve been avid listeners of her ‘Fictions’ show on Cashmere radio. Sixty four episodes deep and sometimes hosting a guest, but often not, each episode follows an abstract theme. It was as soon as we started listening to these (and actually her boiler room from many years ago) that we knew she would be a great fit for kinetic.
From the very slow to the very fast, the old to the brand new, the silly to the ultra-serious and often incorporating her own collages & interludes, it’s everything we love about a DJ & we can’t wait to see what she brings to the party.
Marylou [refuge worldwide]
Raised between forests and ocean in the south west coast of France, Berlin-based Marylou is a true artist whose first languages were painting and cinema. Her daring and psychedelic sets are always an experimentation of her true style : From Traditional music, improv jazz and Noise to dub, bass, footwork and jungle, there are always special instants in Marylou’s sets.
Having been a regular in the Berlin clubbing scene, the past few years have also seen her perform at some of Europes best clubs and festivals such as Terraforma, Freerotation, pe:rsona, Meakusma, Berghain + more.
Much like our other headliner, Marylou also uses the format of radio to showcase her eclectic and vibrating sound through her curations and residencies via Refuge Worldwide and NTS.
Tutu ta [macadam mambo]
Also joining us on the 26th October is enigmatic West London producer Tutu Ta, who will be performing live.
The mysterious London producer’s sound is often difficult to define, a concentrate of punkish dubby tunes combining ruffness, deepness, darkness, light, humour and serious vocals on very heavy beats and super loud basslines.
Alongside his debut album ‘Lonely Eyes’ which he released on Macadam Mambo last year, Tutu ta has also been putting out a series of killer EPs which showcase his raw but graceful approach to dub, half time, techno, synth funk, post punk and more.
We can’t wait to hear what he’s prepared for us!
sinny [radio alhara]
A secret player in the london underground scene, and your favourite DJs favourite DJ, we first saw sinny when he performed a perfect warm up set at Spanners earlier this year.
Often using his artist voice for self expression, activism & political solidarity, sinny is another incredibly creative and boundary pushing artist who deserves his flowers.
His monthly residency on Radio Alhara aims to merge together both side of his heritage via Turkish artists and Arabic music.
An extremely versatile DJ, his sets are at times incredibly hard hitting, the music itself is rooted in the very undercurrents of what has made electronic music in the UK great these past thirty odd years. Whether its breaks, bass, techno or jungle, its always weaved together in some sort of mutant hybrid to create a whirlwind journey through sounds, sonics and self expression.
