Get to know... Daksh
introducing our the first of our DJs for our 3rd birthday next Friday
Welcome to our newsletter sharing our latest mixtapes, merch & events curated by Dj wiggles ๐
Ahead of our 3rd birthday next we sat down with our DJs to get to know them a little better and what to expect from their set next Friday, the first of whom is the wonderful Daksh.
We first came across Daksh via his guest mixes on NTS for Livwutangโs โFurniture without memoriesโ & Jon Kโs Peking Spring and were impressed with his ability to weave together a narrative.
Having heard him play in this space when we were invited to play at Sneaky Petes earlier this year, he blew us away with the comfortableness he clearly felt in that booth and room and his ability to create a groove whilst ever shifting and changing rhythms.

Even though I grew up in London, moving back has felt really different. I work at Ormside Projects which has been really eye-opening in terms of hearing music and meeting like-minded people. Iโm definitely enjoying that aspect of it a lot.

When I was younger, a lot of my friends were going to these jungle warehouse parties, but I never went. I had this conception at the time that electronic music had less musicianship than other stuff that I liked at the time, artists like ESG or Fela Kuti. Over time that shifted as I discovered Livity / Hessle and other rabbit holes. With djing, I want to learn to play in the same way that people master an instrument - almost in rebuttal to my old way of thinking. Sometimes Iโve seen people play where it feels like their whole body is connected to the equipment. Thatโs the energy Iโm chasing. In terms of present influences, Iโve seen so much at Ormside from working and I really feel that has calibrated my senses as to what I like and what I donโt.

Because itโs a residency with rolling dates, I think of each year as a season. Licensing means the line-up is always me plus one other person, and Iโm lucky to have regulars, so I really try to show them different facets of dance music with each booking. Through these parties, Iโve realised I like booking DJs who really focus on the craft of djing more than anything else, I think they often have a stronger relationship to the tracks that they play. The first time I booked Georgia (i-sha), my mind was opened to a whole world of unconventional dance music - tracks and styles that didnt abide to dance musicโs often very formulaic nature. My party was in its initial stages and it really made me realise what I wanted from it.
